Ribs

Last night we had some lip smackin' good baby back pork ribs.

One of my blogging buddies Buffalodickdy likes to post pics of his great looking cuisine and it inspired me to share this with you. So pull up a chair, grab a handful of paper towels and wet wipes and dig in!

I start with a dry rub that I put on the racks the night before, then before cooking I coat them with dijon mustard. This adds a nice flavor and helps to retain the moisture in them.

Now its time to put them on the Traeger. This is a smoker meets BBQ and the results are awesome. If you want more info on them check out the link. (and no this is not an ad. They are not paying me to pimp their stuff. I just think its a good grill)

The entire cook time for these is around six hours and in the last hour and a half they get several bastings of BBQ sauce. I wish you had a scratch and sniff screen because the aroma is killer.

Lisa made double stuffed potatoes with roasted garlic to go with them. Have I mentioned how much I love my wife!

Fresh corn on the cob would have been my first choice for a vegetable, but in the middle of January it just simply isn't in the cards, so peas it was.

Who needs "Scratch and sniff" on their screen when just looking at those pictures of those ribs makes your mouth water? Looking good, Jeff. Looking darned good there.

wow! I didn't know you had such a flare for being a chef. That looks amazing....and I am not a big meat eater.

I knew you were a BBQ Pimp! I could just feel that you were keeping a secret from me.

Those photos look amazing by the way. It depresses me to know that I ate a tv-dinner tonight. How totally lame.

The ribs looked amazing, and then I saw the potatoes! I'm not sure which one I'd eat first.

Oh YUMMY. This looks absolutely wonderful. Why didn't you invite me over? The ribs and potato look devine. I'm with you on the corn on the cob, but you just can't get that yet. Thanks for sharing an awesome meal. Have a great day. :)

But peas? GACK!

Sandee: You think it's bad that he didn't invite you? Well, he didn't invite his poor old starving mother either. Here I sat with but a few crumbs in my cupboard, and he's eating ribs that look to die for . . . and Lisa's potaotes. Oh, pity me, pity me.

(There, Jeff, do you feel sorry for me yet? Never mind, I know the answer)

Jeni- and the ribs don't look bad either do they? Bwahahaha

Jules- I was in the restaurant biz for about fifteen years prior to being in the construction industry.

Christinker- Nothing like salsbury steak with gravy or some other equally nasty TV dinner. Sorry you had to endure that.

Dana- I wasn't sure which one I liked more, so I had seconds of each to be sure.

Matt- I could eat my own body weight in those potatoes.

Leighann- They were really tasty, and there was one left over for lunch the next day. Bonus!

Kerri- Ha, some of my ancestors were from hungry... (oops I mean Hungary)

Sandee- Let's see...you have a boat...I can make ribs...hmmm, this might just have possibilities.

Real LL- She is definitely a keeper!

Katherine- Consider yourself invited. If you come up to the Portland area be sure to let me know.

I was surprised too the Matt, the lover of SPAM, isn't big on ribs. Mayebe he's phyching himself out in preparation of Lent.

Travis- I now remember your disdain for peas. Sorry bro.

Mom- The only thing thicker than the BBQ sauce on the ribs is the slathering of guilt you're laying on. Bwahahahaha!!!

Thanks Jeff I skipped dinner & just look at that good stuff! To bad Blogger doesn't have a scratch & sniff button lol!

LOL Go MOM!

Please pass the 'taters.

Gotta pass on the ribs, dontchaknow....

Please pass TWO 'taters.

:-)

Ok, you need to give me your address right now. If I take the Concord, I can be in Oregon in a few minutes.

Damn, Jeff...I'm sitting here licking the screen.

(with a bib on)

I would like two baked potatoes please!

You know your stuff when it comes to ribs! Your method of dry rub, mustard slather, finishing sauce with a 6 hour cook time is nearly identical to how I make them! You must have a copy of Paul Kirks' Championship BB-Q..Nice designed smoker unit too!

Great.. not only do I short out my keyboard at Buffalodickdy's .. now here???

YUMMERS!

You and my honey would get along famously, he's big into using a smoker.

And as much as you guys like a woman who cooks your favourites, when that man feeds me, I'm SUCH a happy girl!

I am such a rib fan... Sadly though, I can't cook very well much less grill! The potatoes look awsome too. Now I'm hungry.

....oh boy thank god it is close to lunch, thanks for sharing, Anna :)

Vinny "Bond" Marini said...

I miss my smoker...have to get a new one... I have a rub I use that makes the ribs or even a Boston Butt..oh so yummy

Jeff B said...

Roger- If you can invent that and get Microsoft to carry it you'll be rich.

Mel- I wonder where I get my sence of humor???

Ron- I hope you dusted the screen first!

Buffalo- I've only had one bad experience with the Traeger. That could be a post all by itself.

Anndi- and a happy girl makes for a happy guy.

Sherry- I've never met a rib I didn't like.

Thanks for dropping by, I'll make a point of visiting you as well.

Anna- Now wipe up that drool and get a bite to eat!

Bond- There's actually a premixed rub call Butt-rub that's really good. I can't remember who makes it though. This grill does a mean pulled pork sandwich too.

I knew there was a reason I was avoiding this post for so long. Avoiding it still hasn't lessened my craving.

Thanks a lot, Jeff.

Sheesh. *stomps off in search of ribs*

Those double stuffed potatoes rock.

I usually see the ribs boiled or steamed first. They do sure look nice the way you've prepared them.

Jeff B said...

Songbird- What ever you do, a McRib sandwich from Yuck Donalds won't cut it!

Katherine- I'm only ten minutes away from Lake O. Definitely give a shout if your heading up this way.

Hammer- Beef ribs are typically boiled first to get rid of some of the fat and to tenderize them some. It's not needed with the baby backs. esspecially when they are slow-cooked like these.

The potatoes were awesome.

three of our favorite things!

my husband used to work quite a bit in washington for a plumbing contractor - yakima area.

they gave him a smoker very much like the one you have pictured here about 11 years ago and we've flat worn the firebox out - i'm wondering if a new firebox can be purchased?

Jeff B said...

Nanc- If it's the same manufacture, you can click on the link in this post for their phone number. Maybe they can help you out.

Oh my Jeff, those ribs look so good! I guess it isn't too cold to cook out! Lucky you!

I've tagged you with the "Love/Hate Groundhog" meme. Come by my blog to see what it's all about. Of course you don't have to do it! :)

Teach- I just posted the meme.

The ribs were tasty. Thanks
