Back In Session

Let it be written, let it be known, January 6, 2009 will go down in history as one of the fantastic days in our history.

Is the stock market making a full recovery? . . . No.

Will Democrats and Republicans set aside their partisan differences and work together for the greater good? . . . Not bloody likely.

Perhaps Christians, Jews, Muslims, et al., are going to live in peace with acceptance of each others beliefs or lack there of? . . . Ya, I didn't think so either.

No, this glorious event on the calendar marks the return of the school year! HALLELUJAH!!!

With the two week Christmas break and a few more days off because of the snow, the boys have been home for three straight weeks now. Due to the weather, a reasonable amount of that time has been indoors too.

I can honestly say I now know why some animals eat their young!

Okay, anyone who's been around here for a while knows how much I love my boys, so don't panic, they're both still alive and well, and God willing will continue to be so for many years to come, provided of course, a freak snow storm doesn't blow in overnight creating yet another school-free-day. Should that happen, then all bets are off and the feast will begin!

If you're a stay at home mom (or father) my hat's off to you. If you're a single parent and have managed to keep your sanity, you deserve a medal. If you have made the choice to home school your children so you can be with them every waking moment of your life, I have just one question for you. What the hell were you thinking?

I am thoroughly convinced that schools were not created merely for the education of our children, they were put in place to keep the homicide rates down!

♫"They've come to take me away, he he, who who, ha ha. . . "♫

Oh yes!!! I do so agree with your theories here! As a matter of fact, I posted early today about pretty much the same thing except I didn't put in anything about schools being there to keep the homicide rates lower! Good one, Jeff!

yeah...and when they leave home and go away to college you will cry and wish for the Thanksgiving break when they are home again...

I miss when they were little - sigh.

The first son left for college and I cried for a month, but then in a year or so he returned home. Second time he left, I cheered!I burned his bed and made that room dad's office. After graduating, he gets married and they have to sleep on twin beds. I finally put a king bed in there for them. Then come the grands.

Second son, first time he left I shouted "I am free!" But no, he floundered around and back he came home to make pizza for two years and piddle around in school. The second time he left, he took his bed with him, so I put the twin beds in his room for the grands.

He had to sleep in the den on an old couch in the new office. Then he took that couch to his apt. at college. Now he has no bed. Ha Ha

He might come home once a year if that for Thanksgiving. It works for both of us. Don't get me wrong, I really love my sons, but it was time to leave the nest.

Jeff, you have a ways to go, so dig you heels into the ground for the ride of a lifetime with teenagers! We were nice people before we had teenagers. lol

I left a little something for you at my blog. Come by and pick it up when you have time. Take care.

No more snow.

NO more snow.

Just don't wanna be on the receiving end if it DOES snow. LOL

They grow up fast once they're grown up.
But three weeks of no school.....OMG.....

Your post is so right on! Let's see, there's my wonderful son who left home and never moved back in. He's such a good boy. And then there's daughter. She didn't leave home for years. I thought she would never move out! When she was 4, she declared she would never leave me. I thought she was just being a silly little girl. By the time she started the downhill slide to thirty, I was beginning to believe. Then, she met this wonderful guy who took her off my hands. Now that he knows her faults, he asks, "Why didn't you warn me?" I respond, "Do I look stupid?"

My son and his family live in Australia and it is summer there now. So - take a deep breath before reading on - they are at home until the end of January! Now how do you feel?

Since I have no kids (that I know of) I think kids should be in school year round and they should only get federal holidays off. Just the days, not the whole week around those days either.

Katherine echoed my thoughts exactly...what i would not give to be able to see Matt everyday!

Jeni- It's now Tuesday morning and for the first time in weeks, it's quiet in the house. Ahhhhh...

Katherine- Another great paradox from life I know.

Pam- Remember that routine Bill Cosby did about how beautiful his wife was before children, and then the transformation afterwords? I used to laugh at that before I realized it was happening to Lisa and I. Bwahahahaha

Mel- School is officially back in session again, so I think they'll be safe for a while longer!

BJ- I have to be careful, because I was one of those moved out and moved back in sons. Loved your remark of "He was such a good boy."

Anne- I'm feeling much better now, thanks. Now go get that padded room ready and make sure you know where the prescription for the Valium is.

Jay- You may be on to something here. Perhaps a few night sessions would be good too.

Bond- I know there will come that day for us too. It just isn't THIS day.

Honestly, my life is so much richer because of my sons. I do remember that Bill Cosby routine. It was funny and so true.

Better not tell your wife you said that! Nothing is scarier than a ticked off wife/mother. I would be careful and watch your back! lol

Hey, it is not big deal about the ear award. You don't have to post it, just enjoy the complement that you are a great writing talent and say thank you for the award! Dats all!

What the hell was I thinking? I wonder that on a regular basis.

I hate it when the kids go back to school......because I have to go back to work and be with them all day! :(

You're a man after my own heart, although now that I'm an empty nester, I look forward to those long college breaks. My young adults spend plenty of time visiting their other friends from high school days, so they don't wear out their welcome. But yes, I remember how I would look forward to the conclusion of those long breaks when they were younger. I believe you're on to something with regard to that homicide-rate--reduction theory.

Sandee said...

I so remember this feeling Jeff. I'll take it a step further. I'm not eating them. Could be poisonous. I wouldn't want to take the chance.

You get payback when they have kids and then try to complain about how unruly they are. You can just laugh at them. Grand kids ROCK!

I too felt the same about school. I was glad to see him off in the mornings. Bye-bye.

Thanks for the chuckles. Have a terrific day. :)

Schools also tend to keep parents sane longer.

Welcome back to the world of sanity - I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your vacation in craziness!

Jeff B said...

Pam- Sssssh, I won't tell if you don't.

Marilyn- Ha, insanity is hereditary, we get it from our kids.

Cherie- By the hair of my chinny chin chin.

Akelamalu- You poor thing!

Laughing Wolf- Glad to know they made it through in tact.

San- Sounds like they have the balancing act down pretty well.

Sandee- I'm sure my mom has read this by now and had a good laugh too.

Dr John- Ain't that the truth!

Dana- Overall it wasn't a horrible vacation at all, just ready for it to be done with.

OMG, Jeff...this post is so funny!

I mean I don't have kids, but I can PARTIALLY identify with your feelings, from when I taught school for two months during the summer in Florida!!!

OMG...I LOVED being around them, but DAMN...I was SO happy to get in my car everyday and LEAVE!

I APPLAUD every teacher on this planet!

I love your little note jingle at the end of this post!!

Later gator!

P.S. And peace be with you!

Not being a parent I don't have first hand experience but I don't doubt what you say for one second. Three cheers to the school day for parents one and all :)

See I LOVE summer vacation. Cause I don't have to do the morning school routine or the after school crap and cause my child is a fairly good natured bitch hermit. Oxymoron, I know, but there ya have it.

You know, even with all that time off the girls were dragging their feet to get ready for school the other day.
Me....yes I am missing them, but I am starting to adjust to having some time alone after all these years. So I did have a smile on my face as I dropped them off at school.

*giggling*

I've felt as you have felt, Jeff, usually during the summer because our summers are like your winters: we hibernate inside and avoid the outdoors. By August, I'm ready to pull out my hair. Or the ones on my kids' heads. Whichever.

Oh, I remember those feelings!

I was a stay-at-home Mum, and I loved my boys, but oh! The joy when the new term started and I had the house to myself for a few hours! The silence was bliss! And then I'd look forward to the end of term, and the whole cycle would start again. LOL!

We got though it, and you will too. God made sex fun, so that we would keep going... Who'd a thunk kids would result? I refer to sex as "The Big Lie"... but you sure love the little buggers once they're here! And you pray for revenge.. grandkids!

LOL funny stuff.

I am a SAHM. Now you'de think that the 24 year old one wouldn't still be so needy. She moved out with her guy and her son a few weeks ago and she calls me more now than ever before. My son.... well, I've lost him to XBox gaming so I'm basically avoiding DYFS now. lol
What is really hard on us these days is our GRANDSON. Wowowowow.... we babysat him last night and at 20 months he's all over the freaking place. Climb up here, fall down there, giggle, cry, run, leap. We took him to the bookstore to distract him. It worked for awhile... he looked thru some books, listened to a few minutes of Hakuna Matata from the Lion King soundtrack and then we tried driving the LONG way home to get him tired in the car. No such luck. We still had to play with flashlights in the dark and do more tickling and after only about 3 hours of 'ALEX' we were EXHAUSTED. My daughter calls today and says that whatever we did with him last night was great because he was so tired he slept until 10:30 today and thanks. Sure, no problem but we need a week or two off. LOL

"I can honestly say I now know why some animals eat their young!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Sheesh Jeff, my post for today is like a polar opposite of this one but I know 100 PERCENT what you mean! Count me among the Stay Home Mom folk.... I FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE SAYING!!!

And I know what you mean about loving them so much too!

Jeff B said...

Ron- It always amazes me how a teacher can keep upwards of thirty kids in control. Wow

Lu- We seem to be returning to a sense of normal again.

Starrlight- Hmmm, sounds like quite the interesting relationship there.

Jules- Getting the boys out of bed the first day was challenging, but hey seem to have adjusted back to the routine now.

Songbird- I feel your pain!

Jay- You're right about it being a cycle.

Buffalo- As my mom is laughing at my plight now, so will I someday with the boys.

Crystalchick- I often wonder about God's way of giving the younger ones more energy. It would be so much easier if it were the other way around.

Jennifer- I'll have to come by to read your post. The boys have been back to school for three days now and things seem to be returning back to "normal" around here, whatever that is.

For several hours a day, My colleagues & I are in charge of more that one hundred children in the playground while the teachers enjoy a long lunch break!
We go out there in all weathers and it is perishing at the moment.
I can honestly say, that if I wasn't a vegetarian I would definitely eat a handful of the naughtiest boys!
You have two! (But I know what you mean!) LOL

And now you know why I don't have any of those little people at my house. One big ole kitty is plenty for me!

I do envy anyone who enters the realm of parenthood. You couldn't pay me enough.

I used to feel exactly the same way. I loved the old Office Depot commercial for back to school where the father was gliding giddly around the store on a cart to the tune of, "It's The Most Wonderful Time of The Year"!
