Time For a Change

Hey there.

In the past few weeks I've contemplated whether or not to keep this blog going or to just shut it down. No big "life changing" event has taken place.I just feel like shifting gears from where I've gone with this site so far.  The biggest question that I've kept asking myself is this, "Would I feel comfortable giving this URL to everyone I know?" And trust me, it didn't take much effort on my part to quickly answer with a "Not bloody likely!" Sure, my wife, mom, and one brother read it. A few other extended family members read it from time to time and a couple of "real life" friends stop by on occasion, but that's far from everyone I know.

How about any of the pastors from the church I attend? Would I feel comfortable with them reading here? Hmmmm... I know none of them would put themselves on a pedestal and claim to be above another person, but I certainly don't think I'd feel comfortable with them reading all the things I've come up with over the past couple of years.

Am I ashamed of some of the things I've said? Heck no. Far from it in fact. All of the posts here have been a part of who I am. Sometimes serious, often times wacky,  and all points in between. I just think I'm ready to tone it down a notch.

Some of you may be saying, "Tone what down? You're pretty tame."

In many respects you're probably right, in other circles not so much possibly.

Guess it's all a matter of perspective.

I read far more vocal and visual posts from several of you I know. That doesn't bother me at all. I've enjoyed my interactions thus far. Again, I'm just ready to change my own way of communicating, not any of you.

I'm working on a new site that I can start up soon. It'll be a clean slate so to speak.

Don't know if this makes any sense or not, but thought I'd share a bit of what's been on my mind of late.

I'll be sure to post again with the details of the new digs when it's ready.

In the mean time, for any of you with a computer (yeah that's all of us) here's a spin on the Abbot and Costello classic "Who's on First" that is downright hilarious. Click here to read it. Your funny bone will be glad you did!

Well, you have to do what you have to do. It's just that simple. So I support whatever path you choose to take.

I was over at your brothers just behind you and it's well worth the read indeed.

Have a terrific day. :)

Jeff, wherever you go, I hope you will include me among the people you invite to your new blog. I promise I would never write anything there you would have to worry about your pastor reading.

Jeff B said...

Sandee- That was a pretty funny bit for sure.

Quilly- Absolutely you're invited. And I'm not about censoring others as much as I am about myself.

Jay said...

Well I'll probably offend your pastor. LOL

Okay, maybe not. I have some self-control when I need to. Usually.

Everyone gets to blog their own way. That's the fun of it. Some people censor themselves a bit and make sure to keep things the way they like them. An some people let it all hang out. Either way, it's cool.

I think you should do what feels right for you. If changing up your tone or style is what you want to do, then that's what you should do.

Jeff B said...

Jay- The guys at church are pretty up with the times. I think they can handle your comments. Heck, maybe even Matt-Man!

Travis- Guess it's just a overall tune-up I'm going through. Thanks for the encouragement.

Jeff, no matter where you go.....

Am I communicating with you?

Well good luck on your new endeavor my friend. I hope to be able to continue reading what you do. :)

Change is good! Looking forward to the new stuff. :D

I've never been offended by anything I've read here Jeff but if you feel you need to change that's entirely up to you. I hope I will be invited to read your new blog. :)

I consider you a good man, and a good read. Do what you will, but I have seen nothing I would be nervous about showing anyone. I brought my kids up to say what should be said, and I have no regrets..I like or dislike, but do not judge- and don't care for people who do.
We should be thankful for thoughts other than our own- it's how we learn!

I wonder if something's in the air? Because I've just set up a new site and heard from several other folks doing the same -- maybe we're all having a good Spring Clean of old things and enjoying more than one fresh start, who knows?

Your musings on giving the URL to 'everyone' were interesting -- especially as my new project went in the opposite direction. I feel I'm constantly toning myself down on my regular blog because the URL goes to editors and I know I have some teenage readers as well as colleagues reading it... often when I find myself being a bit too *myself* LOL I'm soon hitting the delete button. So I'll set up a site where I can go bananas and get it out of my system!

Good luck with the new thing! I'll be looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

I've felt that way... I left one blog behind already. Do what feels right for you, bro.

It'll be like you buying a new house. I'll bring bananas for your Blog-warming ;)

Sometimes I wish mom and dad did not know about The Couch and I could be more vocal on some subjects in my personal life...but it is what it is.

I have always enjoyed you Jeff and will continue to enjoy you at your new home

Gene- Ever the poet.

Thom- No worries, it'll be an open blog to everyone.

Nitebyrd- Yeah, just need a fresh go.

Akelamalu- By and large I think things here have been pretty mild. I just want to keep a perspective and not get too carried away.

Buffalo- Thank you! I agree that things should be said as one feels. Just want to make sure I do it in a way that's received well.

Susan- I go through those periods of thinking I should have a site where I could let it all hang out. I'm going the way of "You are what you eat" and want to post words that focus more on the positive and in turn perhaps that will motivate me to be more so in everyday life.

Kelly- I think this will be a very good change for me. Thanks

Anndi- hehehe I needed that chuckle!!!

Bond- I know what you mean. Some details parents don't need to hear about. Not that they are a bad thing, know.

I think that said it very well.

And I think that's awesome--certainly it was a growth deal for me when I awakened to the same point.

***Gene- Ever the poet.***

That's it? No return insult. WEAK! You must be getting old.

Jeff B said...

Mel- It's a journey isn't it? Thanks

Gene- In another couple of days I'll be even older. . . but not as old as you. BTW how does it feel to be the same age as dirt?

There now, is that better?

Dianne said...

is it your birthday soon?

I think the same as just about everyone else here (how's that for a shock) - in that you need to be you :)

I look forward to whatever you do next

Jeff B said...

Dianne- It is. I'll be the ripe old age of 44 on the 15th of this month.

The new site is just about ready to go. not much different than this one, but eh, just wanted a re-do I guess.

Jeff - I so understand this! I have found the same as I hopped from one blog to another, at the same time moving along my personal spiritual path and thinking "Hm. Would I really want them to read that?" Again, like you, nothing I am ashamed of but just.... Hm mm. You know what I mean?

Anyway, that wasn't the reason I blog hopped, and I did transfer most of my material, but I admit to censoring one or two. ;0)

I'm not as blog active anymore, but if you post it, I'll find you.

I think we've all wrestled with this idea in one way or another. I find that my blog is where I can show the different rougher edges when I want and that's why I keep it from most everyone in my 3D life. Facebook tends to be where my 3D life and my virtual life collide, and there are people from church who want to "friend" me there that I hesitate. It's not that I'm all that bad, but to some of these people I don't show them the raunchy me who can swear like a sailor or the me who has had a "past." The dilemma is ongoing.

I will follow wherever you decide to blog. Just be true to yourself, and do what makes you happy. No apologies.

Happy Birthday kid!!
44 is so young, you're like a spring flower

Jeff B said...

Thumbelina- I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes the words are hard to convey aren't they?

Songbird- "3D Life" I like that!

Who to, or not to invite in is always an internal struggle I think.

Dianne- "A spring flower..." You know I could kiss you right now!

Thanks my dear.
