Cattin' Around

My current project is a two story remodel/addition in which a garage, laundry, master bedroom and bathroom are being added, along with expanding the size of some of the existing rooms. My portion of the job is to install the drywall (about 150 sheets) then prime and paint the entire interior and exterior of the house.

It's quite a good sized job and I'm really happy to have a considerable amount of work to do during this typically slower time of year.

All of these long hours makes me wish I could catch a nap in the middle of the day, but that's not likely to happen. Now I dont believe in reincarnation, but if it were possible I'd want to came back as a cat. They are the kings and queens of nap taking.

It must be rough

The two tiger stripe ones are named Kazu (male) and Spaz (female)

The gray one is Bella (female)

They're about five months old now and they have been a continuous source of entertainment for all of us. With four cats, three gold fish and one dog, it's like our own little version of Wild Kingdom around here.

Speaking of which didn't you love watching that show? (if your old enough to remember it) Marlin Perkins would always set up the scene as something like this, "We've sent Jim to the plains of Africa to take a baby lion cub away from its mother in order to bandage its injured paw. Don't worry about Jim folks, he is equipted with a very dull butter-knife for protection and as long as the mother lion doesn't wake up before the mild seditive wears off he is perfectly safe. Lets see . . . she seems to be moving around a little earlier than we expected her to . . . yes she is getting up now and she doesn't look too happy about Jim holding her cub . . . kids, you may want to go into the other room for a minute . . . excuse us while we go to a commercial break brought to by the good folks at Mutual of Omaha."

Yes, I do remember that show. Good for you to be busy with the housing turndown and the slow time of the season too. Very good. You can nap between jobs right? Hey, get some rest. We all understand being busy and tired. Have a great evening. :)

I remember watching that show too - Sunday nights, if I recall correctly is when it was on and I always tried to get my Mom to go up to my uncle's house about 8 miles away every Sunday -so I could watch that show, Roy Rogers and Lassie.(They had a tv set; we didn't.)
The cats -boy, that is ALL these two we have ever do! The one, Gracie, has an excuse-she's old, just turned 16 about 3-4 months back. The other one, Nina, is just plain lazy I think!

Sandee- I am very happy to be busy. I just talked to a new home builder the other day, who is considering taking a job with a larger national building company, because with home sales slowing so much it's difficult for him to make it.

Jeni- I think you're right about it being on Sunday nights. That and The Wonderful World of Disney".

Mimi- She is quite the princess too. Spoiled little brat!

Buffalo- Waaay befor Steve Irwin hit the scene. I wonder if Irwin watched him as a kid?

I think my Weiner dog could rival the cats for the Napping Monarchy.

I usually am quite jealous of their relaxing days also.

You do know that Wild Kingdom is back - at least it was last season. The new shows can be seen on Animal Planet and are still fantastic!

Ha...Yeah Jim, got the claw marks and Marlin got the glory. Cats rock.

As far as drywall...Oh dear God...Walls aren't too bad but I did my celing once. That sucked. Cheers!!

I loved Jim!!!I got to watch it in French too and it was beyond funny.

Grizzly Adams, Wild Kingdom and Disney... NIGHTLIFE!

Now, I've got my own project to accomplish.. must redo the floor in the dining room because the dogs have had too many "accidents" in there and they've ruined the wood. I'm thinking tile... any ideas?

We used to have cats but my daughter's father had a severe asthma reaction to them one day so we gave Boris and igor to a family in the country.. I miss the cats. They don't ruin flooring.....

Forgive me if I act like I don't know nuffin' about Mutal of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.....

*chuckling*
Watched the reruns?

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

I can drywall--but ceilings...suck.

I hope you can sneak in a nap!

Christinker- It's a touh life for our furry friends isn't it?

Dana- I didn't realize that, I'll have to look for it.

Matt- I wonder how many times Jim said, "You want me to do what?"

Anndi- If the rooms are large go with a large tile. Less grout lines to clean and it's much better visually. If you can afford it, put radiant heat under the tile, your feet will thank you on cold days.

Leighann- Me too! Funny, when we're kids we fight taking them and when we're adults we crave them. Not fair I tell you.

i've been catching your comments at hammer's and thought i'd just meander by and say "howdy" - "howdy".

we finally broke down and got a gray tabby - our son named him "clawed mewnet" after the famous french impressionist - he's taken over the house.

come visit curtains sometime!

I always liked how before they went to commercial Marlin would say something like "Don't be like the Peruvian armadillo who has no insurance, call Mutual of Omaha"...

Hey Jeff, thanks for sharing the kitty photos. I'm a BIG cat appreciator. I use to have two (one male, one female). And my favorite way to spend a rainy, damp Sunday afternoon, was lying on the couch and having the two of them snuggled next to me.

(purrrring away)

It was like instant sleep therapy! That's a cats greatest gift...SLEEPING! Oh, yea...and EATING!

Enjoy your Sunday, buddy!

ZZzzzzzzz...

I used to love watching Wild Kingdom.

Those cats look just like Mr Bailey and Mr Newby, my current houseguests.

Nanc- Love that name, I'm sure he's the puuuurrrrfect artist.

Thanks for comming by.

Buffalo- Perkins was fed some corny lines.

Ron- Two of the three are cuddle monsters. The gray one is kind of a snoot.

Travis- I thought the same thing when I read your post. haha

Watching cats on the prowl reminds me of their relationship to the wild cats once seen on Mutual of Omaha. If you come back as a cat, will it be a domesticated one or a wild one?

Your babies are so adorable!

i'd better not share my "truck drivin" cat/kitten stories...too many cat lovers in the room...

i've never done dry wall and never (i don't use the word never very often) will

and the show encouraged me to buy stock in Mutual of Omaha......

Cats always look comfortable no matter what they are doing. I could spend a few months as a cat.

Jeff B said...

Schmoop- Thanks for dropping in. I understand our birthdays are a week apart.

Roger- He got the short straw for sure.

Annie- Tough choice. Wild would be cool, but then again it's hard to beat the domesticated variety. The get everything handed to them and don't have to do a darn thing to earn it.

Bond- I can see Marlins white push broom mustache now.

and Congrats on your Giants win in the superbowl!

Kerri- Ya ole' softy!

Teamster- Flat cats? and you're a smart man for saying no to drywall.

Hammer- It would all be fun and games until the trip to the vet to get neutered!

"Pippin" happened to look over my shoulder when I was viewing this post and went nuts over your cats. They sure are velvety sweet looking things.
And Mutual of Omaha...I totally remember that. I always wondered what was wrong with Jim to let himself be put in such situations week after week. And they wre always so calm about it.

Funny how Marlin always stayed back at the ranch while poor Jim took most of the shots. One of the funniest things I have ever seen on TV was Jim with Johnny Carson years ago. He brought on some monster of a monkey who went totally ballistic. Some of the best ad lib ever from Carson...
Love the kitties!
~~~Blessings~~~
Jules- I love my four legged friends.
Grace- I had forgotten about that appearence on Carson. That was a riot!
